In my travels, I've seen many things,
Dying sparrows at the base of a tree,
Bloodshot drunkards in dim hotel bars,
Winding roads lined with broken down cars,
I once met a veteran who was missing an arm,
Told me he'd lit up the night sky with air strikes in Vietnam,
We shared a drink by the fireplace coals,
And he wept for his comrades who died alone,
Here we are, alone for once,
What have we been so afraid of?
It's been years since I went away,
Here we are together again,
I've missed you my baby,
I'm home again,
I once took a ferry to an island with no trees,
And I watched fireworks with the natives on New Year's Eve,
We ushered in the new year with a round of Auld Lang Sine,
Sung to the tune of an old song by Patsy Cline,
I once played a poker game with Chuck Liddell on a yacht,
And he told me about how he trained for his first title shot,
Then I took all of his money with a queen high flush,
And then I spent the rest of the night making sure he didn't drink too much,
Here we are, alone for once,
What have we been so afraid of?
It's been years since I went away,
Here we are together again,
I've missed you my baby,
I'm home again.
